Michael Kirtman was born in Houston,Texas and is the youngest of 5 children born to Louis and Julia Kirtman. At the age of 5, Mike’s father, Louis Kirtman moved the family to San Francisco. Louis Kirtman was a carpenter and relocated to California to seek opportunities for his career because at that time, in Texas, they would not allow him to be a union worker. That decision made by Michael’s parents had a positive impact on the entire family. Louis Kirtman became a Certified Contractor and his mother, Julia Kirtman started a day care center.

Michael was raised in San Francisco’s Western Addition and Bayview Hunters Point neighborhoods. Mike attended Raphael Weil and Fremont Elementary schools, Pelton Jr. High School and Woodrow Wilson High School. Mike was a very active youth during those years, In elementary school he participated in school plays. In Pelton Jr High School, Mike won the Lions Club Speech contest and also was a part of the winning debate team.

These activities kept Mike from going down the wrong pathway. At Woodrow Wilson High School Mike was a Track & Field Hurdles Champion for all 3 years in high school, a member of the first team in San Francisco history to win the California State Championship. Mike was also an All American High School Football Player and was ultimately inducted into the San Francisco Prep Hall of Fame.

Mike went on to attend college after he received an Athletic/Academic Scholarship to the University of Washington. After his freshman year Mike transferred to San Jose State University, the same school attended by Olympic Gold Medal Legends Tommie Smith and John Carlos. Mike is also on the Top 10 all time list at SJSU, a school known for Historic Track & Field. After finishing at SJSU with a Degree in Business Management/Marketing, Mike had a brief career with the Dallas Cowboys and Buffalo Bills. Mike got a chance to be on the same team with NFL legends such as Tom Landry, Roger Stauback and Tony Dorsett. Mike also played in the Canadian Football league.

Over the years Mike has worked with many community organizations and done many projects with youth in San Francisco. While in college at SJSU, during the summer Mike was a Teacher at the YCD Chocolate City Summer School program. Mike also coached with many SF Youth Track & Field teams such as the TDK Track Club, The Billy Hutton Track Club and The Senators Track Club. Mike also coached at Lincoln and Washington High School in San Francisco. Mike has been dedicated to helping our youth and community.

During his career, Mike has utilized his strong leadership skills with the ability to deal with diverse groups and individuals by combining his interpersonal skills with his strong belief in the Team Concept. Mike has worked in the Airline and Car Rental Industries for many years. Mike was an Airport Manager for USAirways and then went on to become the District Manager for Budget Rent-a -Car. His company Budget Rent-a Car was ranked in the Top 5 Nationwide in Sales and Customer Service ranking. Mike developed training programs for the Company and created a positive and professional work environment.

After 20 years in the travel industry and because of his marketing and creative skills, Mike started his own company, Classic Sign Solutions, which has been in business for 15 years. His company has provided many sign designs, architectural signage and production throughout the Bay Area for clients such as MOAD, Patelco Credit Union, CCSF and Academy of Art University, to name just a few. The client list is quite diverse and extensive.

Mike Kirtman has worked in many varied environments and always creates a very positive environment with his ability to work with diverse groups. He has great presentation and marketing skills, is very open minded and able to communicate well with people from many different communities and business oriented environments. Mike is currently working with The Bayview YMCA as the Night Facilities Manager and Transportation Coordinator. Mike is a very hard working person and dedicated to make things happen in a positive manner.

Mike is a family man and with his wife, Chandra, they have four children and have been blessed with five grandchildren.
